Mora is the perfect location for Minnesota engagement photos that feel effortless with a beautiful landscape as your backdrop.
Mora, Minnesota is a small town that would definitely surprise you with all of its natural beauty. It has the peaceful countryside and plenty of wide-open spaces that are gorgeous at golden hour, making it feel pretty magical. It’s the perfect location for photos that highlight you and your partner, with an effortlessly beautiful backdrop.

There are so many locations around Minnesota that are beautiful and make a perfect backdrop for engagement photos. Here are just a few you can consider!
Mora is a favorite of mine as it’s close to home, but is also full of natural beauty! I love Keystone Park, as it’s a large grassy flower field that’s perfect for exploring and capturing photos along the way.
Minneapolis gives you the perfect mix of city and river views. You have beautiful cobblestone streets, the skyline as a backdrop, and the iconic bridge that all provide plenty of variety for your gallery!
St Paul has a very romantic vibe with all of the pretty architecture, historic homes, plus there are beautiful tree-lined streets that looks stunning in photos. Sessions here feel effortlessly timeless!
Duluth is perfect if you want more of an adventurous feel to your session, and I’m always dreaming about my next session in this gorgeous place! I love all of the rocky shorelines on Lake Superior, and the breeze always adds the perfect touch to photos here.
This spot is a great choice if you want nature without driving all the way up north. The backdrop here is breathtaking with all of the pine trees and riverfront views, and the cliffs are perfect for exploring. It’s the ideal choice if you want more of an adventure session!

Minnesota gives you a totally different vibe every season, so the best time for engagement photos really depends on what you want your backdrop to feel like. Spring means everything will be nice and green and you have fresh blooms, but keep in mind it can still be a little muddy or unpredictable with rain. Summer is warm and has the longer evenings, and is especially beautiful at golden hour. This definitely makes it a more ideal time of year for a session!
Fall is when Minnesota is at its best. The colors are truly unmatched and it transforms so much of the area. It does book up quickly, though, so plan ahead if this is your dream season. Winter can be very chilly, but it can also be pretty magical. The snow can feel really romantic and highlight you and your partner with the clean colors. But you’ll definitely want to bundle up!

When it comes to what to wear for your Minnesota engagement photos, the most important thing is to feel comfortable and coordinate well. Neutrals are always a great idea, like creams, tans, soft greens, muted blues, anything that has an earthy tone. They let the scenery shine without competing with it, and they keep your photos feeling timeless. Try to avoid super bold patterns or logos, since they can pull attention away from you both.
Since Minnesota weather can be all over the place, it’s a good ideas to bring some layers, especially in those cooler months. For summer sessions, flowy and light fabrics that move well in the breeze add so much to your photos. And honestly, the most important thing is that you feel confident, as this always comes across in photos!
